Every summer, thousands of Zeds Dead fans make the pilgrimage to Morrison, Colorado, for one of electronic music’s most celebrated traditions. 12 years after its inception, Deadrocks has evolved into much more than two nights at Red Rocks Amphitheatre, becoming a multi-day takeover that brings fans together for an unforgettable Fourth of July weekend.
This year’s edition represented one of the biggest milestones in Zeds Dead’s career. More than 30,000 tickets were sold across four events over three days, including two sold-out nights at Red Rocks Amphitheatre, the annual Backyard Jamboree, and the Mission Ballroom Hangover show. Deadrocks XII also marked the debut of the duo’s Journey Of A Lifetime Tour, giving fans the first look at Zeds Dead’s most ambitious live production to date.
Built around their recently released album, Return to the Return (of the Spectrum of Intergalactic Happiness), the production introduced the duo’s new “Channel Flipping” concept: a constantly evolving visual experience weaving together vintage television broadcasts, classic films, surreal animation, archival footage, and pop culture references. Rather than serving as a backdrop, the visuals became an extension of the music itself, creating an immersive experience that constantly shifted alongside the night’s genre-bending soundtrack.
Night One
Fans began filling Red Rocks early on July 2 as MARAH kicked off the festivities with an energetic opening set. RSUN and Neumonic followed, steadily building momentum while showcasing the next generation of bass music talent.
By sunset, UK drum & bass standout SOTA had transformed the amphitheater into a sea of nonstop movement. His high-energy performance injected a welcome dose of drum & bass into the evening, proving why he has become one of the genre’s fastest-rising names. Mary Droppinz closed out direct support with a dynamic set that blended bass music, hip-hop, and house influences, making for the perfect transition into the night’s main event.
When Zeds Dead took the stage, it was immediately apparent that this tour was the start of a new era. The debut of the Journey Of A Lifetime production elevated every aspect of the performance, with the Channel Flipping visuals unfolding like an endless stream of nostalgic media that perfectly complemented the duo’s musical style.
Musically, the set balanced fresh material from Return to the Return (of the Spectrum of Intergalactic Happiness) alongside fan favorites, classic releases, hip-hop edits, dubstep anthems, and unexpected throwbacks. The seamless transitions between genres have always been a hallmark of Zeds Dead’s performances, and Night One showcased exactly why they’ve remained one of EDM’s most respected live acts for more than 15 years.
Night Two
On Night Two of Deadrocks, fans were treated to another carefully curated experience that differed significantly from the night before. While the production remained the same, the music selections, pacing, and overall atmosphere made Night Two feel entirely distinct.
LUMBERJVCK opened the afternoon before Hydraulix and Axel Boy each delivered bass-heavy performances that kept the energy climbing throughout the evening. One of the most anticipated support sets came from Baauer and Holly, whose back-to-back performance combined trap, experimental bass, and relentless energy into one of the weekend’s standout collaborations. Sippy took the stage ahead of the boys, delivering a hard-hitting set packed with dubstep and high-energy selections.
Zeds Dead closed out the evening, once again navigating effortlessly through dubstep, drum & bass, hip-hop, house, and everything in between, digging deeper into their extensive catalog while introducing more music from their latest album. One of the defining characteristics of Deadrocks has always been its unique nightly curation, and this year’s edition was no exception, with minimal overlap between the two headline performances.
The Channel Flipping visuals continued evolving throughout the night, pairing each musical shift with an equally unpredictable stream of imagery that ranged from retro television clips to surreal animations and vintage cultural references. The result was a production that rewarded fans for paying attention as much as it did those simply there to dance.
Denver Fourth of July Takeover
The celebration continued on July 4 with the annual Backyard Jamboree, giving fans an opportunity to keep the weekend going in a more relaxed daytime setting. Performances from Casey Club, HEYZ b2b Sippy, Caspa b2b Distinct Motive, and Zeds Dead helped round out another successful installment of the fan-favorite event.
For those still chasing one last set before heading home, the tradition concluded with the Hangover show at Mission Ballroom. Following an opening performance from Papajay, Zeds Dead treated fans to two extended sets, including a surprise b2b with Of The Trees. It was the perfect finale to lead into the Journey Of A Lifetime tour.
Final Thoughts
With the Journey Of A Lifetime Tour now continuing across North America, Zeds Dead are bringing the energy, production, and creative vision introduced at Red Rocks to fans across the country. More than just a celebration of their 15-year legacy, the tour represents a reflection of how far the duo has come while leaving the door open for what comes next.
From the debut of their largest production to date and the introduction of the Channel Flipping concept to two completely unique nights at Red Rocks, Deadrocks XII showcased a duo that continues to challenge expectations. As Journey Of A Lifetime unfolds, fans can expect each stop to offer its own experience while carrying forward the same sense of unpredictability and innovation that has defined Zeds Dead throughout their career.
For those who witnessed the tour’s opening chapter at Red Rocks, Deadrocks XII was a glimpse into the next era of Zeds Dead. For everyone still waiting to experience it, the journey is only beginning.
