Armin van Buuren provides an intimate musical style in Piano

Piano draws deeply from Armin’s rich classical influences, rooted in an enduring passion for tradition. With a piano-playing father and a profound admiration for classical composers, Armin has cultivated a deep respect for melody, harmony, and structure that resonates throughout his work. In summary, what began as a decade-long quest to master the piano—initially aimed at enhancing his electronic creations and nurturing his mental well-being—has evolved into an extraordinary creative journey. As he grew tired of playing existing scores, Armin took the bold step of composing his own melodies, which flourished into fully realized pieces under the expert guidance of classically trained composer Geronimo Snijtsheuvel.

Behind the production of this beautiful album

In fact, the album’s recording and filming at ConcertLab, the world’s first purpose-built filming studio dedicated to fine arts music. This state-of-the-art studio is in Utrecht, and the creation of the album took over seven days in early 2025. The album showcases van Buuren’s artistry both solo and alongside gifted guest musicians, including talented cellists and a chamber orchestra led by the distinguished violinist Lisa Jacobs. Additionally, alongside his original works, Armin pays tribute to one of his all-time favorite trance classics—‘Children’ by Robert Miles—reimagining it as a solo piano piece that powerfully intertwines his electronic roots with classical sensibilities.

In detail, each composition on Piano contains deep emotions, cherished moments, and significant individuals in Armin’s life—including his family and the beauty of the natural world. Also, the album masterfully transforms these memories into evocative, piano-driven narratives. The first piece that Armin made for this project, ‘Fathers and Sons’, set an evocative tone for the album. This piece really provided the strength for him to delve deeper into similarly profound themes.
