Two of Trance music’s most celebrated acts, Paul van Dyk and Aly & Fila, have released their long-awaited collaboration, ‘Is This Only a Dream?’, on Dreamstate Records. The track serves as the official Dreamstate SoCal 2025 festival anthem. The festival will be held at the Queen Mary in Long Beach later this month and acts as the centrepiece for the forthcoming ’10 Years of Dreamstate’ compilation, marking the brand’s landmark anniversary.
Both artists are essential pieces of Trance music and are, frankly, living legends. On one hand, Paul van Dyk basically changed Trance music forever with his ’90s international hit, ‘For an Angel’, and has since released eleven full-length albums and was crowned DJ Mag’s #1, aside from, you know, little things like touring the world and marking the lives of countless people with his emotional sounds.
On the other side of the ring, Egyptian icons Aly & Fila are considered trance royalty, known for building their ‘Future Sound of Egypt’ (FSOE) empire over two decades. Through countless defining records, their label, and their radio show, they have heavily shaped the genre globally.
‘Is This Only a Dream?’
The single is a Trance & Techno hybrid masterpiece, carefully engineered by some of the best artists the world has seen consistently release for a combined total of over half a century. Aly & Fila say, “We are very proud to collab with our good friend Paul Van Dyk and to release the Anthem for Dreamstate”. And we are too.
Crafted by two masters of the Uplifting Trance sound, ‘Is This Only a Dream?’ is driven by fluttering arpeggios and airy atmospherics, beneath chugging rhythms and a pulsing low-end. The track’s ethereal vocalisations and rhetorical vocal hook fill the space with cinematic wonder and a mirage-like euphoria, embodying the signature vibe and creative freedom both Paul and Aly & Fila have to offer.
